With TallWood Whisky 10 Years, NewSpirits shows how an existing whisky with a distinctive provenance story can be translated into a new, strong, and commercially viable whisky brand. This was not an external client project, but an in-house portfolio case in which provenance, selection, brand strategy, brand design, bottle, label, and commercial positioning came together.
The basis of TallWood lies in a refined Single Grain whisky with origins in Groningen. The whisky was distilled by Hooghoudt in Groningen and was later acquired, selected, and positioned by Brouwhoeve under a new proprietary brand identity. Because the name Hooghoudt is not used as the brand name on the bottle, a new and fitting brand name was chosen: TallWood.

NewSpirits led the development of the brand concept, visual identity, bottle presentation, label, and overall appearance. Brouwhoeve provided the whisky selection, maturation expertise, bottling, and commercial realization. The result is a 10-year-old Single Grain whisky at 45% alcohol, bottled in 70 cl bottles, non-peated, and matured in ex-Sherry Oloroso casks.

Tallwood has had a strong story from the beginning. The base is a Dutch grain distillate with Groningen origin, distilled by Hooghoudt. For the contents, NewSpirits worked together with Brouwhoeve. Brouwhoeve took the whisky. Took over, assessed the casks, and selected the batch to be released under the name Tallwood on the market. This gave an existing whisky with a valuable origin a new commercial future.

With whisky much depends on timing. A cask can technically be old enough, but only at a certain moment does it truly come into balance. The art is to determine when grain, wood, alcohol, sherry influence, and mouthfeel enhance each other rather than dominate.
